I've also had this issue and figured it out.Manually log out of your user account, then at the welcome page go down to the menu with shut down options and their will be a shutdown and shutdown with updates, or something like that. You using windows 8 or 7 (assuming 8 because of the tag you put in)? Because I believe this worked in windows 8 but I forgot. Thanks for your answer but that doesn't work for Windows 8.1, I already tried. When you log out and click on the power options, your only choice is 'Shutdown and update' or Restart and update'.

Hi Troy,I understand if Windows Updates have disrupted your business. Please do understand that these updates are needed to make sure that you're protected and have the latest features that you need to make your Windows 10 experience the best.

What I can suggestfor you is the following options so that the update installation won't affect your work.Option 1: Schedule a restart or pause updates. This option lets you schedule the restart for a more convenient time. Here are the steps:.Select the Start button, then select Settings Update & security Windows Update.Select Schedule the restart and choose a time that's convenient for you.If you're on Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, you can choose to temporarily pause updates from being downloaded and installed.Select the Start button, then select Settings Update & security Windows Update. Under Update settings, select Advanced options.Turn on Pause updates. Note: After a certain amount of time, or after canceling a pause, you'll need to install the latest updates before you can pause updates again.Option 2: Set active hours to install updates. This option advises Windows on what hours you're typically using the PC. Updates and restarts will not happen during these hours.

Follow these steps:.Select the Start button, select Settings Update & security Windows Update, then select Change active hours.Choose the start time and end time for active hours, and then select Save.Do let me know if there's anything else you need or if you have further questions. My last Windows operating system was Win7. I encountered troubles with my PC every time automatic updates were installed.

After a few times of falling back to restore points I shut off auto updates and manually selected only security updates I found relative.I never used Adobe bling so I didn't install updates for Adobe $41t whether security focused or not. With this Win 10 theres no options, other than timing. Install the updates or suffer the wrath of the MS gods! The latest Win10 updates installed without my knowing before hand; And it, screwed the pooch.I resorted to falling back to a restore point in order to get my PC up and running as it had prior to the update installation.'

.to make sure that you're protected and have the latest features that you need to make your Windows 10 experience the best'. The best experience Id have is if youd,Leave my PC alone!Or at the very least enable selective manual updating, once again. At this Win10 is smelling more like Win8 or soiled baby diapers. Have to say, agree with you completely.

The update cycle for WaaS has been atrocious, and twice-yearly Feature Updates of things nobody wants anyway are ridiculous. The missing-personal-files-drama of the early v1809 rollout (regardless that Insiders reportedthis over 3 months earlier), and now the problems with KB4462919, demonstrate that MS have got their priorities all wrong and things continue to get worse with every release. Of course, laying off a slew of 'testers' couldn't be part of these problems. But when you put the brunt of this on Home users, who have the least technical capability or OS tools (as opposed to Pro versions), and they have to deal with themost problems, (because they are on the front lines), it never ceases to amaze me how MS can even consider continuing down this road.

They should be hanging their heads in shame. I appreciate the feedback, but the problem remains. Apparently I should go back to Apple OS. Which I had many years ago when I could afford it. I went to MS upon building my first desktop that many years ago and had to have an OS for it.If you have W10 'Pro' you can delay updates for up to one year. If you have the 'Home' version, the only thing I can tell you to do, is set your internet connection to 'metered', and then update the OS when you have time to deal with it.Sorry, but MS don't listen to user feedback when it doesn't coincide with their plans.

Please do understand that these updates are needed to make sure that you're protected and have the latest features that you need to make your Windows 10 experience the best.Do let me know if there's anything else you need or if you have further questions.Typically Windows Updates do nothing to make my Windows 10 experience the best. Id like to add that many of us may use our laptops in public places, like a library or a coffee shop, having no option to shut down without applying updates is REALLY annoying to me. Id rather have the option to apply the update at a later date. I knowhow important updates are. But we cant tell the people at the closing business 'please wait my laptop is updating and i cant unplug!'
